Sub-miniature LEDs, as the name suggests, are a highly compact type of light-emitting diode (LED) that are designed to be used in applications where space is extremely constrained. They are physically much smaller than standard sized LEDs with package dimensions under 2 mm, and they enable integration into tiny spaces. They also have a lower power and light output than regular LEDs which are typically under 10-50 millicandelas but produce sufficient brightness for indicators.Sub-miniature LEDs require very compact supporting optics such as micro-lenses to shape & amplify the light output efficiently, and they operate at lower currents and voltages, usually under 10mA and 2-3V.
