There are many reasons to choose fluorescent bulbs over traditional incandescent lightbulbs. Not only are they known for being more energy efficient, but they can also last around 10 to 20 times longer. They diffuse and distribute light better and generate less heat, ideal in the summer when you want to help keep a room cool. Incandescent lights contain a wire filament which is heated until it glows. In contrast, a fluorescent light is an electric lamp which contains low pressure mercury vapour and an inner coating of fluorescence material to produce visible light. Current flows into the mercury which results in UV radiation being emitted, causing the fluorescent material to glow.
